Tenth National Conference of the Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy

This year the Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy (SIFA) will celebrate its 20^th anniversary with a National Conference that will be held in Alghero (in Sardinia), September 13-15, 2012. The Conference will offer an occasion for discussion of many themes of research in analytic philosophy. We invite submissions on the following areas:

Philosophy of language, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics and metaethics, Philosophy of science, Philosophy of logic, Philosophy of mathematics, Philosophy of law, Political philosophy, Philosophy of mind, Aesthetics, Philosophy of religion, History of philosophy, History of science.

Open lecture for the 20th anniversary of the society by Diego Marconi (University of Turin).

Maria Rosa Antognazza (King’s College), Elvio Baccarini (University of Rijeka), Paul Boghossian (New York University), Petar Bojanic (University of Belgrad), Roberto Casati (Institut Jean-Nicod), Pascal Engel (Université de Genève), Pieranna Garavaso (University of Minnesota Morris), Diego Marconi (Università di Torino), Genoveva Martì (ICREA and Universitat de Barcelona), Martine Nida-Rümelin (Université de Fribourg), Stefano Predelli (University of Nottingham), Claudine Tiercelin (Collège de France), Achille Varzi (Columbia University), and more to be confirmed.

A workshop on “Realism” will be held before the conference in Alghero, starting on September 12, 2012, at 2 pm (in cooperation with the LABONT – University of Turin). Speakers: Paul Boghossian, Petar Bojanic, Maurizio Ferraris, Marco Panza and Achille Varzi.

SUBMISSIONS

Contributors will have 40 minutes, ideally divided into 30 minutes of exposition and 10 minutes of discussion. The languages of the conference are English and Italian. Those wishing to make a presentation should submit:

A short abstract (about 200 words)

A long abstract (1000-1500 words)

Long abstract should be thoroughly prepared for blind refereeing, with any and all revealing references to the author removed, including personal acknowledgments.

Both short and long abstracts should be submitted electronically using the EasyChair submission page at:

Abstracts will be subject to double blind refereeing and acceptance will be notified by May 15, 2012.

Participation in the conference is subject to a registration fee and to the payment of the SIFA membership.

If paid BEFORE July 15, 2012:

50 (conference fee) + 50 euros (SIFA): permanent faculty

30 (conference fee) + 25 (SIFA) euros: others

If paid AFTER July 15, 2012:

80 (conference fee) + 50 (SIFA) euros: permanent faculty

50 (conference fee) + 25 (SIFA) euros: others

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Alghero is a town of Catalan origin right on the Sardinian Sea (one of the most beautiful Italian towns: http://www.alghero-turismo.it/Default.asp?l=en). It is served by low-coast airlines and it has many not expensive accommodations. Check the Conference website in few weeks for all the practical information.

il prossimo bollettino SIFA sarà dedicato al tema del disaccordo e, oltre alle relazioni presentate al convegno SIFA di Midterm “Agreement/Disagreement” che si è tenuto a Torino l’11 e il 12 dicembre 2011, conterrà altre due sezioni per le quali sollecitiamo i vostri contributi:

1) sezione di note critiche sul tema del “Disaccordo”, lunghezza massima 15.000 caratteri, spazi inclusi.

2) sezione di recensioni critiche di volumi sul tema del “Disaccordo”, lunghezza massima 10.000 caratteri, spazi inclusi. – I volumi da recensire possono essere proposti liberamente dagli autori, ma devono essere approvati preventivamente dai curatori del volume. Per questo motivo, prima di presentare la propria recensione, scrivere a sifabollettino@gmail.com per verificare che il titolo a cui si è pensato vada bene.

Tutti i contributi, sia le note sia le recensioni, possono essere scritti in italiano o in inglese e devono essere inviati entro e non oltre il 20 maggio 2012 al seguente indirizzo: sifabollettino@gmail.com

“The Place of Philosophy in European Culture”

The Meeting is supported by the Portuguese Society for Analytic Philosophy, the Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy, and the Spanish Society for Analytic Philosophy and is intended as an occasion to discuss non-published work presented by philosophers working in analytical philosophy in European Latin countries. Preference will be given to junior researchers, i.e. researchers concluding their doctoral dissertations, and philosophers who have completed their PhD within the last 5 years. Each presentation will last 40 minutes, with ca. 20 minutes for discussion.

There are no restrictions on the topics to be addressed. Those wishing to participate as speakers should submit an abstract (of up to 1000 words) to latinmeet2011@gmail.com by July 20. Submitted abstracts will be refereed by the Scientific Committee of the Latin Meeting. Decisions on whether papers have been accepted will be made by September 10. Some of those whose paper has been rejected might be invited as discussants, depending on the topic of their work. We have some funds to cover accommodation costs for people giving a paper.
