Practical
Alghero is a town of Catalan origin right on the Sardinian Sea (one of the most beautiful Italian towns: http://www.alghero-turismo.it/Default.asp?l=en. It is served by low-coast airlines and it has many not expensive accommodations.
The venues of the Conference are in Alghero town centre. The Asilo Sella, headquarters of the Department of Architecture at Alghero, lungomare Garibaldi 35, is the main venue. The Sala Congressi Chiostro di San Francesco, via Carlo Alberto/via Machin 2, is the venue of the plenary sessions. The Palazzo del Pou Salit, piazza Duomo 6, is the third venue.

By flight
The Alghero/Fertilia airport is the airport we strongly recommend for landing. It is just 10 km from the centre. Buses to Alghero centre are not frequent, but they are a good solution:

Tickets must be bought inside the airport (€ 1.00). Time: around 20 minutes.
It is also possible to take a taxi: price is around €20.00/25.00. Time: around 10/12 minutes.

The other airports in the island are Olbia (140km from Alghero) and Cagliari (230 Km). Public transportation is not efficient through the island, so we suggest you to avoid landing in Olbia or in Cagliari.
- If you land in Olbia, you need to take a train or a bus to Sassari and then another train or a bus to Alghero. The train station lies in the town centre of Olbia. You can easily reach the train station by taking the buses number 2 or 10 from the airport (from 7.30 AM each 1/4 hour) until their stop in Via Gabriele D’Annunzio right in front of the large square with the train platforms. - If you land in Cagliari, it is even more complicated. First, you have to take a bus from the airport to Cagliari town centre: http://www.arstspa.info/160.pdf
Then you have a few solutions.

By boat
There is also the possibility to come to Sardinia by boat. The best option is to land in Porto Torres, which is just 40 Km from Alghero. Then you have to take a bus to Alghero:

but in this case you then have to reach Alghero from Sassari (see before).
Other boats will take you to Olbia, Golfo Aranci (near Olbia) or Cagliari. Once again, you will have to take a bus from these places to Sassari and, then, to Alghero.
We strongly suggest you to come by plane landing in Alghero/Fertilia. This is definitely the best option!
